Abstract

This research explores the dynamics of organizational behaviour (OB) within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in Ottawa, Ontario. Using a qualitative methodology, the investigation draws upon 62 in-depth, face-to-face interviews conducted with both administrators and staff members from diverse sectors, including retail, technology, healthcare, education, and hospitality. The inquiry highlights essential behavioural dimensions—such as participatory leadership, transparent communication, cultural inclusiveness, and work-life integration—that shape professional interactions within these organizations. Through thematic analysis, the study demonstrates how Canadian social values and multicultural principles inform SME practices, influence productivity, and enhance employee involvement. The findings enrich the limited body of qualitative literature on organizational behaviour in Canadian SMEs and provide actionable insights for business leaders, policymakers, and human resource practitioners seeking to strengthen workplace culture and organizational performance.
